RULES

How GitHub readsa CODEOWNERS file.

The last match wins.

GitHub reads the file top to bottom and the last pattern that matches a path decides its owners, so put broad rules first and specific ones after.

No owners clears ownership.

A pattern with nothing after it leaves matching files unowned, which is how you carve generated code out of a broader rule.

docs/* stays one level deep.

A trailing /* matches files directly in that folder. Use docs/ to cover everything underneath.

Paths are case sensitive.

Docs/ and docs/ are different patterns, even on a case-insensitive file system.

Some gitignore syntax is skipped.

Negation with !, character ranges with [ ] and escaping # with a backslash do not work. GitHub skips the whole line.
